Collection Profile for:
Archbold Biological Station (ARCH-herbarium)
The Leonard J. Brass Herbarium at Archbold Biological Station is a key botanical and mycological collection founded during the early years of the Station’s history that remains a vital part of our research today. The Herbarium preserves the stories of the unique plants and fungi found in the Headwaters of the Everglades through the collection, careful preservation, and accessibility of specimens. Our regional emphasis on the unique habitats endemic to our region, particularly but not limited to the Lake Wales Ridge, gives us outsized importance to the research community, and our exceptional training of staff and interns relies, in part, on herbarium training. Our plant collection of 5,500+ specimens and rapidly growing macrofungi collection of 300 specimens are fully digitized and accessible, and utilized by researchers worldwide.
