Collection Profile for:
International Center for Tropical Botany (ICTB-VP)

The ICTB Herbarium at Florida International University houses a growing research collection with a particular emphasis on plant specimens derived from permanent vegetation plots throughout the Neotropics, especially in Amazonian forests. The collection is taxonomically broad, with strengths in woody plants and ecologically important lineages, and is designed to support studies in biodiversity, forest dynamics, biogeography, and conservation. Specimens are primarily dried and pressed vascular plant vouchers, accompanied by detailed ecological metadata derived from plot-based inventories. A distinctive feature of the collection is the integration of extended specimen data, including near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) spectral profiles and associated functional trait measurements for the majority of databased accessions. These data enable linkage between traditional voucher specimens and phenotypic, chemical, and ecological information.

ICTB has a large number of specimens that are identified as morphospecies, which have been standardized across plots in French Guiana and Peru. To accomadate for these names, they are indicated in the field taxonRemarks, whereas the displayed identity is the lowest taxonomic level that the specimen has been identified to with a valid name.

The collection is curated and managed at Florida International University as part of the International Center for Tropical Botany (ICTB) and serves as a research and training resource for students, faculty, and collaborators working in tropical systematics, ecology, and conservation.
